Centered in Christ Gifted with Grace Ministering through Service

       Worship

As Christians, we have private moments to share in conversation with God.  As a faith community, Sunday worship offers us the opportunity to receive His Word and Sacrament in a responsive, creative and celebratory gathering. St. John offers  two distinctive, yet still singular styles in which to worship.

The Traditional Service draws upon our ancient Christian liturgy and responsive verse and often features the chancel and chimes choirs. We sing familiar hymns that have stirred souls for decades and songs introduced in the new ELCA hymnal, Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

The Contemporary Praise Service features popular styles of Christian music performed by a band with a beat and drive that touches your soul and fills you with the Holy Spirit. It's a Lutheran service with a modern flair that connects with today's tempos.

Regardless of your preference, in both services you'll find time for reflective silence following Bible readings, a special time set aside for children, uplifting and engaging sermons, and prayers offered by lay members of the congregation.

Baptism

Baptism is the place of entry into the Christian community. It is a sign of God's priceless grace which gives us life. As Lutherans, we gather at the water, the source of life, to receive this holy sacrament that is both a once-in-a-lifetime event and an ongoing way of life.

We recognize baptisms from other traditions and eagerly welcome new Christians into our family of faith.

Liturgical Calendar and Seasons

Our worship experience utilizes the liturgical calendar which changes with the seasons. We follow the life of Christ through Bible readings from the Old and New testaments and from the Gospels.

Holy Week is central to our faith and worship experience. From Palm Sunday to Maundy Thursday to Good Friday and Easter, this time of reflection, great sadness and tremendous joy is the highlight of the Christian calendar.

Holy Communion

We joyfully celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday at both services.

When Jesus gathered with his disciples on the night of his betrayal, he gave us a new sacrament, a new way to meet him.  He took the bread, gave thanks and gave it to his disciples saying, "Take and eat; for this is my body which is given for you."

After supper, he took the last cup, gave thanks and gave it to all to drink saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin."

He instructs us to do this and to remember Him.

If you believe that Jesus Christ is present in the bread and wine (or grape juice if you prefer) then we invite you to join us at the table.
